This year’s Lenten Series is “Our Great High Priest and His Passion.” It is in the Letter to the Hebrews that Jesus is called “the Great High Priest.” Jesus’ priesthood is unique, claims the author of the Letter, because it is eternal; and because his involves self-sacrifice rather than the offering of the flesh of bulls and lambs. These and other characteristics of Jesus’ priesthood are evidenced and revealed in his Passion, and so provide us with good reason to focus on these more important days in the life of the world from this theological perspective.
