New Year’s Day 2025 falls on the Eighth Day of Christmas (in the liturgical calendar), on which the Church also remembers the Name of Jesus.
It’s a wonderful reminder that our identity as people of faith begins, is sustained, and ends in our identity as sisters and brothers of Christ and in Jesus, the Christ. In our baptisms we are ‘Christ-ened’ at the font, and gifted to share the same Father — Abba — to whom we now and will always belong. We begin our worship in the name of Jesus, we are invited to begin each day in the name of Jesus, and it seems good and right that we begin another year together in the name of the one in whom we have our light and our being: God through Jesus the Christ, by the Holy Spirit.
May this coming year be a blessing to you and yours. And may we, as a community united in Christ, be a blessing to the world and the neighbor.
Pax,
Pastor Scott
