I’ve been a fan of the British comedy troupe Monty Python since junior high. I remember when I first saw them. It was shortly after 10:30 pm, Dad and I had returned from a basketbaIl game with the pep band. I turned on the tv, flipped through the channels and landed on the local PBS station. On screen the camera panned to BBC program announcer sitting at a desk in the middle of a meadow. He looked at the camera, shuffled some papers, and said, “And now for something completely different.” We were hooked.
September at Cross might not be completely different, but it is full of variety. On Labor Day weekend we welcome guest pastor Brandon Sept. 13 is God’s Work Our Hands Sunday, with our friends at Promesa de Dios, for shared worship, meal, and a few service projects. On Sept. 20, we’ll mark a new church commemoration, Christ in Creation Sunday and welcome Maplewood’s Appropriate Response Team members for adult education.The week after, another guest preacher.
Of course, there’s more to come after that: Confirmation on Reformation Sunday (Oct. 25), All Saints Sunday (Nov. 1), Reign of Christ Sunday (Nov. 22), Thanksgiving Worship (Nov. 24) and then Advent begins on Nov. 29. It might not be completely different, but it promises to be completely lovely.
